Corneria (Japanese: コーネリア Corneria) is a planet of the Lylat System that is home to the Cornerians, which includes most of the Star Fox team. The planet, its temperatures, and geography appear to be based on Earth, and is the most populated planet of the Lylat System. Corneria was formerly a lush environment before Andross turned most of it into a wasteland during the Lylat Wars. Andross formerly lived on Corneria before he was expelled to Venom.

Corneria is also base to Corneria City, and the Cornerian Defense Force. Corneria has appeared in every Star Fox game except Star Fox Adventures, although it was referenced at least once.

History

Star Fox

Corneria, known as Corneria - The Base on the stage opening, is the first stage in Star Fox, regardless of the level. The boss of this stage is the Attack Carrier.

The manual gives this description:

Planet IV: Corneria

The fourth planet in the Lylat System, Corneria, is known as the "bread basket" of the system. It is a fertile farming world with a variety of climates and terrains. Most of the inhabitants live in the shelter of the mountain ranges, where the most productive farming soil can be found. Corneria is a peaceful planet with only the smallest of defense forces. Most of its starships are designed for exploration and transportation. When Andross's invasion fleet threatened the planet, it was up to General Pepper to improvise some kind of planetary defense. He hired the Star Fox Team to pilot the experimental Arwing Fighters.

Star Fox 2

In Star Fox 2, Corneria is not featured as a stage, but it remains pivotal to gameplay. The Star Fox team must prevent the enemies from entirely damaging Corneria by 100%.

Star Fox 64

In Star Fox 64, Star Fox team was hired by General Pepper to aid the main army base, which had been overrun by the Venomian Army. Arriving at Corneria City, Star Fox was shocked at the destruction.[1]

Corneria is the first level of the game. There are two paths that can be taken:

  • If the player does not save Falco and/or does not fly under the arches in the sea, the player will fight Granga, and beating him takes the player to Meteo.
  • There is a secret path that one can take by saving Falco, flying under the arches in the sea, and then following him. The boss is Attack Carrier on this path, and beating it will take the player to Sector Y.

Super Smash Bros. series

Main article: SmashWiki:Corneria

Corneria appears as a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In this stage, combat is fought on the Great Fox, but in a 2-dimensional plane. Arwings fly by and shoot at the combatants, which can cause high damage and knockback. The Great Fox's cannons also shoot lasers but can be destroyed during the match. Also, during the match, Fox or Falco can contact their teammates by lightly tapping down on the D-Pad. This stage also reappears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a Melee stage, in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
