This draft policy is recommend by a member in accordance with LW:Draft. You are free to make small changes, as long as the original purpose of the policy is preserved. Any feedback should be provided on the talk page. |
So, say you're surfing the wiki, and along comes a link to a page that doesn't exist. It could be because you were on a character page, and it's linking to their favorite item. It could be you are searching for a stage page, and it does exist yet. Either way, you think the wiki would be better off with it than without it.
But should you create it?
The simple answer: yes. We prefer to have contributions that break a rule or two, than no contributions at all.
However, in doing so you may cause some additional work for the Administration, as there maybe a reason that page doesn't exist. If you wish to prevent this work, please follow the upcoming guidelines as to #When not to create an article. If doesn't fall in any of these cases, feel free to started it without any consent.
To create the article, click on a red link, or enter the title into your address bar (at the end of the URL, like http://starfoxwiki.org/<insert title here>
or http://starfoxwiki.org/w/index.php?title=<insert title here>
).
Follow Help:Getting Started on how to put something in the article, and then hit save. Allow the browser to reload, and WA-LAA! a new page has been created.
When not to create an article
1. The page was deleted
If the page has existed, but no longer does, check the deletion log to see if there is a reason for that to be. If you feel this is an error, please also check Category:Deletion Discussion and Category:Archived Discussions for any archives on discussion(s) that may have been had for your subject or topic.
If none exist, then feel free create it. If some do exist, post to the appropriate discussion page at LW:Corneria to see if people wouldn't mind you restoring it or making a new one with the same title.
2. The page actually exists, there was just a spelling and/or grammar error
This depends on how bad the error was. If it is not too terrible (wrong capitalization, on a list of commonly misspelled words), then please create the page as a redirect to the correctly spelled word. If it is a terrible error, then please don't create the page.
3. It Violates LW:HET
If the page violates the high-end topics (HET) list, please, be cautious in creating it. Check with the appropriate discussion page at LW:Corneria to see if this is allowable; if no related discussions already exist, then please make one and see if the community will allow it.
As a warning, If you create a page with out the consent of the community, it maybe mark as a LW:CSD.
4. It's Out of The Wiki's Scope
Our wiki is focused on Star Fox. In-universe, out-of-universe; doesn't matter. There should be pages on all the characters, items, vehicles and stages that appear in the games; and there should also be pages on the games, people, companies, and consoles. All of these pages are related to the Star Fox franchise in some way.
If it isn't related to Star Fox in any shape or form, please do not create it.
5. Examples
Do not create an article to simply be an example of something, including the demonstration of templates, adding only categories, and only adding random files to the article. Any test edit should be made in the Sandbox.
Once you are ready to create it
Once you are ready to create an article, think about adding the following templates
