Rare, formerly named Rareware, is a British game developer located in Twycross, Leicestershire. It was founded in 1985 by Tim and Chris Stamper. Originally a second-party of Nintendo, Rare made a multitude of successful games including Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, and Banjo-Kazooie. Their last console game for Nintendo was Star Fox Adventures before being purchased by Microsoft the day after the game's North American release date in 2002, and their last Nintendo title overall was Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise for the Nintendo DS in 2008.
Star Fox games created
Rare has created one Star Fox related game in its lifetime. Originally going to be a separate game titled Dinosaur Planet meant for the Nintendo 64, Shigeru Miyamoto approached them mid-development and convinced them to re-design the game as an entry to the Star Fox franchise as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube.
