Welcome to admin's log... where any admin can log about something (and it has nothing to do with the log from ren and stimpy). If there is somewhere better than here, then this will be some kind of archive... i guess. I don't know, I'm more of an idea person, not necessarily good with the implementation. First, sorry i haven't posted in a while. Been busy heading back to school and all. Plus my room has no internet, so i can't get to the wiki, nor get on skype.

Second, i was thinking, should we have OggHandler Extension? I mean, the only experience i have using it is: [1], where we demo some world map music. But i think it would be cool if we could have star fox music playable on the related pages. But it may not be worth it if it takes up too much server time.

If we do, should we upload them as mp3's? or convert them to ogg's? I prefer ogg, for the legal benefits, and it maybe smaller on the server. But anyway, i will allow the community to decide that.

Also, I'm testing out how my sig looks. Please Comment on it. User:Tacopill/sig.

Third, Started this page.

That is all.

I've been told that people are taking from wikia, copying and pasting blindly, without editing it and preserving any spelling & grammar errors there may have been. So, to start off this section of my log, let me Just Say: We aren't Wikia. If find some information on wikia worth including here, then please link to it, copy and edit it, or do something with it that isn't just copying and pasting. We need to keep ourselves separate in order to make sure we are independent, and blindly copy and pasting makes us into no more than a mirror.

Second, what i said before needs to go to files as well. To prevent copy right violations (and other stuff), we need to identify where the image has come from, if at all possible.

Third, please don't forget to source your text. If something you contribute comes from the game, or from a fan site, and we'd like to know more about it, a citation link helps serve that purpose. Sorry if i sound angry on this, but it needed to be said.

Now, on to the fun stuff.

Today's work was mainly on categories. I organized them into areas i find useful, but feel free to suggest changes if you think there would be a better way of doing them. Because every category, can itself be a member of a category, i've established the Category:Root - the top level category. EVERYTHING in the wiki descends from this in one way, shape or form. There are sub categories on everything i can think off (at the moment) so feel free to explore to your hearts content.

Other Things i did today include:

and many other things. But the above is more present, in the influence on the wiki.

I am also very happy to see people starting to use/edit the wiki. :D.

So, was working out the other colors in the idea i presented yesterday, and manged to come up with 9 that i think will be usefull. Some of them are based on wikiprojects I've created pages for (Lylat Wiki:Characters and Lylat Wiki:Games), while others are for pages launched today (Lylat Wiki:Items and Lylat Wiki:Vehicles). After thinking of other things that might be useful, i put this together of other wikiprojects i think would be usefull. I'd start them, but i want to give everyone a chance to catch up to where i am, and/or to tell their opinions on them. I have a bad habit of not waiting long enough for people to fairly review an idea i have. My bad..

So, i am proposing 9 projects, each of which fit into one of these categories based on the color wheel. First up, are the Primary colors, Red, Yellow and Blue. These have gone to Vehicles, Items and Characters, as those are typically the three areas of the game i think about. Although, now that i realize it, i don't know where planets would fit it. But anyway, cross that bridge when i come to it.

Next up are secondary colors: Orange, Green and Purple. These related to real world stuff, such as People (Designers and developers), Games, and Companies. Finally, the colors with out a hue, White, Grey and Black, are saved for Fandom, Teams, and WikiProjects, and are pretty much used for anything that's specific to the wiki itself.

To summarize:

  • Primary Colors - In game
  • Secondary colors - Out of game
  • Colors with no Hue - Wiki-Related
Vehicles People (as in, real life) Items Games Characters Companies Fandom Teams (groups of users, does user boxes, etc.) Wiki Projects

will we need more? i mean, we may also want for types-of-pages: article, template, category, and file. And do we want anything on fan communities? the systems? teams of characters?

Also, keep in mind, i am not good with choosing color combinations... so if you have a better idea of what colors to go with what, please do so. Just keep them separate from the other color instances. Thanks.

I've also reorganized the stubs, so we get a better idea of what it is a stub of and not just shrug it off as a generic stub. Now we can shrug it off as a specific stub :D. And then i did the same for categories, making it easier to navigate.

Today I managed to get some character's and game's pages together, or, at least, started and stubbed. Working on the pages, and more specifically the templates have had me come up with a suggestion.

What you see before bellow are 9 colors, 2 of which have been chosen to be used in certain situations. These aren't required, i just thought it would be nice to have something visual to bring all similar information together. So, all Character Templates user color5, while color4 is for games. Currently These just happen to be blue and green, respectfully, But they may change as needed (Plus, because they are number coded, you just need to change page in the wiki to change all the data that uses that color-code).

hi hi hi Games Characters hi hi hi hi

In addition, i made a distinction of lines-of-games, as i was kind of mixing up what "prev" and "next" would mean in each situation. Currently, there are two:

  1. Release Date - based on when it was released (or planned to, as in the case of Star Fox 2), but not necessarily had impact on the continuity.
  2. Story - Order of Games that actually impacted the continuity.

Due to "Release Date" not requiring continuity, Games like Smash Bros and Star Fox 2 can be included in the line up.

Next to report, i fixed Template:Stub, as it was messing up on pages with a space in their name, and Created two more stub pages, Template:Character-stub & Template:Game-stub, based on them. There has also been Related categories created, if you wish to check them out.

Alright, let's get down to it. We've got too many unnecessary extensions weighing us down, and I want to scrap some of them and replace some more of them. I'm also getting us some professional assistance: Adam, Zelda Wiki's tech guy. He also does work for WiKirby, and he's good at this stuff. I'd also like to get in contact some time so we can discuss server access. I'll be needing it so I can do work on the extensions and such. If you have a Skype, add me as a contact. My Skype name is sirtweek.

Okay, so I've decided that I really want to go without the meta-templates. They're confusing and daunting, and I don't want to discourage less experienced templateers from editing them with large blocks of code that they can't understand. I appreciate the thought and all, and I hate to just scrap them, but I think it would be best. Like I've said, templates are a strength of mine, so I can take care of them. I'm going to start taking out the meta-templates, and I will replace them with regular templates later when I get the time. Again, sorry that you went through the trouble of bringing them here :/

Tacopill 21:24, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

So, i really liked the Help:Contents page. I took the links listed in it, and made this template from that information. Hope you all like it Template:Emoticon.

Do you wish to use Lylat_Wiki:Infoboxes and Lylat Wiki:Characters? if so, where?

I also updated Template:Helpbox, so now it has the "This Box:" Info. Hope that helps.

Currently doing stuff at school (in computer labs), but has thus far managed to contribute everyday. I hope that i am not leaving an impression that is how i normally am (even though it probably is true, and i just don't want to admit it *lol*). I am leaving for home on Thursday, So Friday i maybe to start installing the requested extensions.

Also, please look at Talk:Starfox 2.

Comment from Neo 22:37, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, looks decent. I'm going to be borrowing a lot of help and policy layouts from Zelda Wiki, because they have a solid system that I like. I've also taken a look at the SF2 talk page and responded. I also don't entirely know about the infoboxes and such, yet. I'm not fond of MASSIVE meta templates that are near-impossible to edit. I make templates myself, so I know how annoying they can be :/

I'll take a look at some of the stuff to see what I can do and what could be helpful and such.

Tacopill 20:39, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

So, made Template:Infobox game and Template:Games, which are both really good templates (i think/pray/etc). I also made pages for Star Fox 64, and created distinctions between the Star Fox game, series and team.

...

Pretty self-explanatory, but still. If an explaination is needed, just ask. Tacopill 20:39, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Some of these pages are confusing...We'll have to attempt to bring some normality to them by organizing them and making sure they work. The {{doc}} template should also be implemented.

comment from Tacopill 20:27, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

which are confusing?

and I've been trying to include /doc pages for all the templates, sorry if missed one.

Tacopill 19:28, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Imported some more pages today. Plus made a Infobox to be used on character pages, as well as template i think will be used. I also put together Template:MachineBox and Template:Stub-templates to help start ideas of what could be in the wiki, and to start cataloging wiki-specific stuff (like stubs).

Use of these templates (on an indivuidall level) can be covered on the related documentation page; but groups of templates can also be covered in project pages, that cover that template group. So, for instance, Lylat Wiki:Infoboxes can cover all infoboxes, not just character ones. Just the same, Lylat Wiki:Characters can cover all character templates, not just infoboxes, but stubs, files and other related info.

Just a thought. If you have a better idea, feel free to do that instead.

On a side note, does anyone know how to separate the documentation div from the Template:Infobox character table?

Tacopill 21:52, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

So, i've improted some of the most useful stuff i've had in one of my other wikis. Maybe later or tomorrow i will import more.

These "important stuff" are here if we decide to use them. It is not a requirement to be used, I just prefer to have them and not use them, than not have them and need them. These include:

In addition, i started Wiki-specific pages:

As always, feel free to edit what i contributed. (Trust me, I am use to it).
