The is an important topic to certain fans, while others don't seem to care. To some, this can be a key factor in settling debates. This is Cannon.

Canon vs. Non-Canon

Canon is what ever is considered to officially part of the Universe. Non-canon, however is officially not.[1]

For example: Fox McCloud's Father is James McCloud. This is a known fact, and has appeared in many official Star Fox related texts. Therefore, the fact is consider canon.

Now, when Fox battled against Mario in Super Smash Bros.? That was officially Non-canon, as the Super Smash Bros. series has no influence on main universe of Star Fox.

Canon vs. Fanon

Fanon, on the other hand is a beast of a different color. Fanon is what the fan community, or maybe even a single fan, believes to be part of the universe...without supporting it officially-recognized evidence[2]. This can cause major debates among the fans, some of them supporting it as a theory to fill in gaps in the canon, while others refuse to acknowledge it at all.

These theories sometimes go as far as to be in complete conflict with the canon. This creates a dis-continuity, where the fan community refuses to except something the people in charge of the franchise has said is canon.

Beware of Fanon

We want to serve the Star Fox Community(ies). However we can not do so if we don't be on the watch out for Fanon. Information that can be considered as fanon can be allowed in the wiki, but only if it is labeled as such.

If a statement in the wiki is not canon material, but is supported by evidence (and it's got to be good evidence), then it is acceptable.
