Meteo is known as '''Meteor''' on the map screen and '''the Battle Base Meteor''' on the level opening screen of ''Star Fox''. The Japanese version also calls it these things (in English letters), but the manual calls it {{hover|メテオ・ベース|Meteo Bēsu}} ''Meteor Base'' in its section on page 16 and {{hover|メテオ|Meteo}} ''Meteor'' on the map on page 20, showing that it indeed has the same name in Japanese as the place from later games in the series.<ref>https://www.nintendo.co.jp/clvs/manuals/ja/pdf/CLV-P-VADGJ.pdf</ref>

It is the fourth stage on the [[Easy Route]], after the [[Space Armada|Andross Space Armada]] but before the [[Venom Orbital]]. In this stage, the [[Star Fox (team)|Star Fox]] team flies close to the ground and at low visibility, making it one of the more challenging stages for avoiding collisions with solid objects. At the end of the stage, [[Fox McCloud|Fox]] fights the stage boss, [[Dancing Insector]], in his [[Arwing]].
