The trainer is a tanuki that appears in Star Fox 64 and its Nintendo 3DS remake, Star Fox 64 3D. He only appears in the game's Training Mode, teaching the necessary techniques to pilot the Arwing in both standard "Corridor Mode" and All-Range Mode.

Intro
Appearance
The trainer appears to be a tanuki with a green and red cap, similar to Slippy Toad. A theory is that he may be a flight instructor for the Cornerian army. He holds up a wrench showing that he is also some type of mechanic. The fact that the trainer seems to speak in a similar manner to Morse code in the original game also indicates that the trainer may actually be a hologram designed to help with training. It is also possible that he works aboard the Great Fox, as he and ROB 64 share the same background in the Communications Channel in the 3DS remake.

Starfox 64 has a Training Mode to help the player get used to the controls. The level consists of 3 stages. Stage 1 has the player flying through 100 rings. Stage 2 consists of doors that open and close and the player must maneuver through them using the Brake or Boost. Lastly, Stage 3 consists of you fighting endless hoards of enemies until you die.
Portrayal
*The trainer is the only character in the Nintendo 64 version of the game to not speak in an actual language (he instead speaks in an almost Morse code-esque manner). He could be speaking in Lylat, as his voice remains the same in the Europe and Australian release.
*The trainer is given a speaking voice (by Jay Ward), in Star Fox 64 3D.
*According to Slippy Toad's information on the Japanese Star Fox 64 official website, the trainer is a tanuki named Yaru de Pon (ヤル・デ・ポン), and he is actually the president of Space Dynamics. Slippy knows this because he works closely with his father, Beltino Toad.
*The trainer is often mistaken for a raccoon. However, a tanuki is a canine animal, making it fit with most of the Cornerian forces.

Location
The location of the Training Grounds remains a mystery. It seems to take place on a small area in front of Corneria. It could be a defense station close to Corneria due to buildings and enemy fighter planes.

Trivia
*On Stage 3, after the player shoots a number of enemies down, a Wolfen appears and the player has to take it down. It is unknown if either Wolf, Leon, Pigma, or Andrew is in the Wolfen or even if the Wolfen is even real (it could be a hologram to help you in your training).
