'''Bill Grey''' is a fictional, supporting male character from the [[Star Fox (series)|Star Fox series]]. He is an anthropomorphic bulldog with brown fur (although was originally gray in color, reflecting his name). His official debut was in ''[[Star Fox 64]]''. It is widely believed that Bill Grey is a "reincarnation" of [[Fay]] from the canceled game ''[[Star Fox 2]]''.

Grey's name is likely a reference to the character General William Grey, from the 1996 film [[wikipedia:Independence Day (film)|''Independence Day'']]. This strongly evidenced by the parallels in the Katina mission ''Star Fox 64'' to the final battle scene from the film where a massive, circular alien ship was annihilated after the destruction of its core.


'''William "Bill" Grey''' (ビル・グレイ, Biru Gurei) is a Bulldog ace pilot in the [[Cornerian Army]] that serves out of [[Katina]]. He wears a Green Ace Army Commander Helmet on his head because he's a Commander of his own team. In his childhood, he was good friends with [[Fox McCloud]], who convinced him to join the [[Cornerian Flight Academy]] with him some years ago. When Fox left the Academy to avenge [[James McCloud|his father]]'s death at the hands of [[Andross]], Bill went on to become an ace pilot and was given command of both the [[Husky Squadron|Husky]] and [[Bulldog Squadron|Bulldog]] squadrons. He helped to defend [[Katina]] during the [[Lylat Wars]] and the [[Anglar Blitz]].

If the mission is accomplished on [[Katina]], Bill will help with opening the warp gates in [[Sector X]] or help with fighting monsters on [[Solar]], depending on the route Fox takes. A similar role is played by [[Katt Monroe]].

*The name of the character is a reference to General William Grey, from the 1996 blockbuster movie Independence Day.
Grey originally hails from planet [[Corneria]], but has settled on planet [[Katina]], to lead an outpost of the Cornerian Defense Force. Grey is considered an ace pilot in his own league. He first appeared as an ally in ''[[Star Fox 64]]'' when [[Star Fox (team)|Star Fox]] team assisted him defending the CDF outpost, and he later appears repaying Star Fox in a later mission, either [[Solar]] or [[Sector X]] (though not if the player had not completed the Katina mission first). Grey's next appearance was in ''[[Star Fox Command]]'', maintaining his role as a supporting character and a member of the CDF.  


*Bill's fur color changed between his two appearances in ''Star Fox 64'' and ''Star Fox Command''. In the former, he actually was a shade of grey, befitting his name. In the latter, he was a light brown.
Grey is an old friend of [[Fox McCloud]], as they both went to military academy together, albeit they later took different approaches in serving their planet, as Grey joined the governmental army while McCloud reformed [[James McCloud|his father]]'s mercenary team, Star Fox.
