Shigeru Miyamoto

Shigeru Miyamoto (宮本 茂) is a Japanese video game designer and producer. He is best known for his creations at Nintendo, such as the Mario, Zelda, and Star Fox series. He was born and raised in the Kyōto prefecture of Japan, and his experiences there during childhood inspired much of his work, especially the open and non-linear land of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda. He was formerly General Manager of Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (Nintendo EAD), which is in charge of the majority of Nintendo's major titles, and is currently Representative Director and Fellow of the company since Nintendo EAD merged with another development division Nintendo SPD. He has been involved in the development of the majority of the Star Fox games released to date, mainly in the original and its Nintendo 64 remake, and the latest entry, Star Fox Zero.

Quotes

  • "Video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock and roll."
  • "What if everything that you see, is more than what you see? The person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it or accept that there is more to the world than you think. Perhaps it is really a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things."
  • "I don't like all the attention. I think it's better to let my work do the talking."
