This has been kept for historical reference.

For a while, I've been talking with Neo (a NIWA user) at the NIWA Network about a merger with Lylat Wiki. Until I learned about exporting and importing, I was a little drawn away from the idea. I now fully support it, and am letting this continually thinning community know what's going down. Many users, some of which are administrators, have left, and few remain. It is important that I receive thoughts on this merger, especially from users like Dogman. To help with your decision, I will list the pros of this merger:

  • No more disruptive advertisements.
  • Simpler, less complicated format.
  • No unnecessary updates or implementations (Blogs, Article Comments, Badges, etc.)
  • Less vandalism. With a more secure domain, we won't have to worry too much about that.
  • Organization of things will be easier overall.

Unfortunately, I can't really think of any cons other than this will require a lot of work, which is what we, as editors, are used to. :) Neo will stop by to further discuss the merger for those who need more information. Thanks for reading! BNK [E|T|C] 20:29, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

What up, guys? I'm Justin (AKA Neo), and I'm going to explain a bit about this. I mentioned the idea to BNK awhile ago, but it only got serious recently. Merging would mean that your content would be exported from Wikia and imported to Lylat Wiki. All of the active staff members of Arwingpedia will be promoted to their respective status on Lylat Wiki. Rollbackers would become patrollers, though. It's basically the same thing, except they also patrol edits and have their own edits patrolled automatically. If you don't know what patrolling is...See this. Anyways...
Anonymous editing at Lylat Wiki is currently disabled due to a large amount of retarded spam, so you wouldn't have to worry about attacks like that.
Another thing is that you'd have more control over the wiki. It isn't owned by Wikia, it's owned by me, and I extend that ownership to my staff. As long as major scale changes are run by me before they hit, I'm fine with anything that the staff agrees upon, basically. That means that you can get extensions, skins, etc., unlike Wikia.
So I think that about sums it up. If you have any questions, ask them! :)Neo(talk) 07:24, October 18, 2010 (UTC)
AH! Almost forgot: I can restore your edit counts to what they were here. All I have to do is go into the database and manipulate your edit count there. So you would lose your edit history, yes, but you would keep your count!Neo(talk) 20:28, October 18, 2010 (UTC)
So...is anyone going to say anything?Neo(talk) 17:11, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
"Anything!" sorry, i couldn't resist. Hello everyone, my name is Bud0011 on wikia, and Tacopill at Lylat Wiki. I am excited about this opportunity and will be around if you need help with anything. Bud0011 19:53, October 19, 2010 (UTC).
I may as well say hi, y'all can call me Adem or PureLocke over on Lylat Wiki. I'm over on Zelda wiki as well and the NIWA forums under the same username.

Hey, Its Peanut64. Pikmin Wiki and Pikmin Fanon moved to NIWA from wikia. Everything about it is uphill!! :D {{SUBST:User:Peanut64/NewSig}}

Given the complete and utter lack of any input from Arwingpedia users, I'll assume that you're all okay with moving? This is very real and it's really going to happen, guys! Your lack of responses say "I don't care; go ahead," to BNK and myself. So can we at least get SOMEONE to say something?Neo(talk) 00:39, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
The community is pretty dead, and I'm sure they don't care. We'll start merging and stuff this weekend or whenever you and I are free. Sorry for the late response! I'm super excited, and just in time, too; Wikia just tricked me into implementing a shittier skin! BNK [E|T|C] 21:18, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I changed it back. Looks like this is happenin' without any argument. :) It'll be good to be surrounded by a community of users who don't randomly leave or get upset and ragequit and rather work on making the wiki better. See you guys this weekend! BNK [E|T|C] 21:35, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
Hahaha, okay. Well, I have to work all this weekend, but we'll figure something out :)Neo(talk) 21:40, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
I am going to be away for the weekend, so would it be possible to hold off till Monday that way all of us can help out? Also, i have begun discussing with our users about this, so feel free to chime in there. Bud0011, October 22, 2010 (UTC).
I'm here. Give me some time to read this and compose my reply. Dogman15 19:11, October 22, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, yeah. Given that I really don't like the new Wikia skin, (and I had to go into my preferences to try to make it look as much as possible like the old Arwingpedia,) I think it's time to switch and merge. Most of the time, I've always preferred Wikia wikis over the independent ones, but sometimes those are better than their Wikia competitors. MarioWiki is better than mario.wikia.com, SmashWiki is better than smashbros.wikia.com, and Bulbapedia (bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net) is better than the Pokemon Wiki. (And don't get me started on the iNiS wiki - it has potential but needs so much work.) When it comes to Wikia, I prefer it for information on Pixar (Pixarpedia), Star Wars (Wookiepedia), Kirby, and Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic News Network). But this new skin thing was the tipping point for me. Haul it over! Dogman15 19:26, October 22, 2010 (UTC)
Funny how you should mention the Kirby Wikia. It's merging with the independent WiKirby last I heard. Oh, and the independent SmashWiki was on Wikia until last month, as well as Pikipedia and Pikcanon-NOT. 71.65.124.126 21:42, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
NIWA is breaking...
Is there anyway I (A at Lylat Wiki) can help with the merger? 71.65.124.126 21:48, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
See [1], but i am currently editing it. Bud0011 21:51, October 25, 2010 (UTC).

Note from Wikia

Hello, I just wanted to stop by and see if there were any questions I can answer for you here. I know what some community members may not be happy about the new look, but we hope that you give it a try before you decide to leave. The wiki here will remain open for whoever decides to remain. Let me know here or on my talk page if I can provide any further help. Best, --Sarah<staff /> (Help Forum) (blog) 22:31, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Funny how you guys always have to leave a note on any discussion about a wiki leaving.Neo(talk) 03:18, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Using my "preferences" thing, I was able to make Wikia look somewhat how it used to look (though not exactly), so for the time being, I'm fine with staying on Wikia. Dogman15 05:25, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Thing is, on November 3, Monaco goes bye bye permanently.Neo(talk) 17:43, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... I'm not sure if I'm going to like that. Sorry, Sarah Manley, but it looks like I'm favoring switching, unless you can give us another compelling reason that Wikia is better despite the change in appearance. Functionality? Operability? One thing I sometimes like about Wikia is that clicking on images brings up the image in a little mini-window. Key word being "sometimes". Dogman15 21:46, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

the big day has dawned! at least in britain anyway. I look forward to seeing the merge maybe tomorrow for me(?). 86.21.4.251
Neo, we want to make sure the community here knows they are welcome to stay, or make requests.
Dogman15, I am sorry to hear that you don't find the new look compelling, or the other support and hosting we offer for free. We feel the new look is more engaging and attractive to new and older users alike. We are going to continue to assess the decisions we have made, and make tweaks where needed. Merger Proceedings

Ok, i am ready to begin the merging. Before i do so, BNK, can you please paste up the a note asking people to stop making edits? Personally, I would find it annoying to have to keep coming back here to export 1 new revision :D. Also, I've started to write up the Merger proceddings, which is basically what i think we should be doing after the mass export/import is done. Bud0011 20:28, October 25, 2010 (UTC).

Hello, as I have mentioned above, you are welcome to take a copy of the content here and use it on another site as long as the attribution rules are followed, but please do not try and influence others into deleting, or stopping contributions here. Each user is allowed to make their own deicision about whether to edit here, there or on both. Thanks, Sarah<staff /> (Help Forum) (blog) 20:48, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Well, considering the people who run the wiki (See Category:Administrators) have deiced to close the wiki, and no one objected, I see no problem with it. However, as a comprimise, i will change my request from "a note asking people to stop making edits" to "a note recommending people to stop making edits, similar to what smash wiki has done". Lulz. Wikia staff always makes me laugh.173.168.217.112 21:22, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
