Area 6

Area 6, also known as the Venom Air Defense Zone, is the name of a fictional space station and penultimate stage in Star Fox 64, operating as Andross's strongest and final line of military defense above his home planet, Venom. Various space corvettes, freighters, minefields and even fully functional space stations fill the void beyond Sector Z and Macbeth, working to impede and annihilate the Star Fox Team as they pass through the area en route to Andross. Area 6 is comparable to the Bolse Defense Outpost, the space station on the opposite end of Venom, however, Area 6 is considered a Hard Mode stage, when taking into account the amount of skill required in order to complete it.

Because it is a space station, the only vehicle capable to navigate space is the Arwing, and thus all the other characters will be aiding Fox in the same throughout the level. The final obstacle between the Star Fox Team and Venom is the mechanical fiend, Gorgon. Using a wide array of attacks, including the summoning of energy balls, disappearing and reappearing, charging energy, and unleashing a heavily damaging beam, this boss keeps the Arwing motile throughout the entire battle. The boss' weakness is it's core, which it only exposes upon taking enough damage. Fox will earn a "Hit +10" for defeating Gorgon, and gain access to Venom below.

Once Fox obtains 300 hits in Area 6, the level Medal will be awarded.

Trivia

• It seems that even General Pepper realizes the dangerousness of this stage, evidenced in his on-screen conversation with Fox before the stage gameplay.
