Titania is barren, desert world of crumbling ruins and sandy dunes located in the Lylat System. It's atmosphere is composed of black clouds and red dust blown by the numerous Ion storms that are frequent on this planet. The only life is the cacti on the surface.
Overview
Titania is known as the "Red Planet" because of the massive ion storms that kick up dust from the planet's surface and deposit it into the stratosphere. A surprising amount of ancient ruins have been discovered on Titania by archaeologists, pointing to an ancient civilization that once inhabited the planet. The only survivor of this lost civilization is a creature code-named "Goras", believed to be an advanced planetary defense system. Due to the hostile nature of the planet, travel to it is usually restricted, unless for research.
History
A very long time ago, Titania might have been to be a prosperous planet, home to a progressive agrarian society. The Titanians constructed ornate cities of stone located between their farming communities using advanced construction techniques. According to data found in the ruins that have been studied so far, it could be assumed that most of them worshiped the Goras creature by constructing temples in the center of their towns and leaving their harvests their to appease the creature.
Then a massive asteroid, possibly from the Meteo Asteroid Field, crashed into Titania and destroyed everything, instantly turning what was once a lush world into its current barren state.
During the Lylat Wars, scout forces sent by Andross investigated the planet and discovered a Goras. The mad scientist, through bio-mechanical experimentation, altered the creature and turned it into a fearsome warrior. The Star Fox Team battled through Venomian forces in a search for Slippy Toad, who had crash-landed on Titania and was captured by the Goras. Fox McCloud succeeded in rescuing Slippy and destroying the Goras, ending the creature's existence.
Four years after the Lylat Wars, research bases had been established on the planet, including one commanded by Captain Shears. Katt, as well as her teammates of the Hot Rodders gang, were fighting off against another Goras that is later reviled to be sent by Captain Shears himself. Shears tells Fox that they were remnants of Andross' army (though in actuality because they stumbled upon plans involving the revival not Andross's research, but Andross himself.) It's also where Fox and Falco end up getting into a dogfight (as Falco was seen aiding what seemed to be Andross's ship, but was actually the Hot Rodders ship.) The research base was later destroyed after Fox destroys Andross. It is possible that Shears did other research on the planet, including perhaps activating some of Andross's technology.
It has recently appeared in Star Fox Assault as a VS. mode stage. The base in the center is the battle field.
